AU/PG/CANON/OC: Canon: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, post-Season 4
Summary:- Pinkie Pie and her three sisters are born and raised on a rock farm outside of Ponyville. While her family loves her, her upbringing is quiet and dull, devoid of smiling or singing of any kind.
- One day, Pinkie sees her very first rainbow, filling her with a deep, intense joy and an equally intense desire to share it with others. She throws her first party for her family and earns her cutie mark as a party planner.
- Shortly after, the young filly moves into Ponyville proper, taking residence and employment at the Sugarcube Corner as a baker/cater, and becoming Ponyville’s resident party planner. One of her earliest parties in town also inspires a runaway colt named Cheese Sandwich to become a party planner too, leading him to earn his own cutie mark.
- Some time later, Pinkie Pie meets (and throws a welcome party for) Twilight Sparkle. Later that night, Twilight recruits her and four other ponies to help her find the Elements of Harmony defeat Nightmare Moon, who has kidnapped Princess Celestia and plunged Equestria into eternal night. Pinkie earns the Element of Laughter by encouraging her new friends to use laughter to overcome their fears, and helps change Nightmare Moon back into Princess Luna.
- Pinkie finally has a group of friends to hang out with regularly, learning about friendship and its magic as they do so. Pinkie in particular learns how to deal with a bullying griffon hogging Rainbow Dash’s time to herself, plays Pied Piper to a parasprite infestation with a one-pony band suit, demonstrates to Twilight how her Pinkie Sense works, tries (and fails) to stop a pony-buffalo conflict through song, and attends the Grand Galloping Gala with the girls.
- Pinkie Pie tries to throw a party the day after her pet gator Gummy’s first birthday party. However, the girls act increasingly dodgy as they decline the invitations, leading Pinkie to believe they don’t want to be her friends or attend her parties anymore and making her very depressed. It turns out she’d forgotten it was her birthday, and her friends just wanted to throw a surprise party for her, and she gains a stronger confidence in her friendship with the girls.
- Discord- Equestria’s personification of chaos- escapes from his imprisonment as a statue and wreaks havoc on Equestria. While she finds his antics amusing at first (especially the chocolate milk rain), Discord plays on her insecurity of being made fun of and brainwashes her into being angry and hating all forms of fun. It’s only when Twilight uses her magic to remind her of their friendship that she turns back to normal, using the Elements of Harmony to seal Discord once again.
- Life in Equestria continues as normal for Pinkie, save for now being able to write to Princess Celestia about what she learns as well. She learns responsibility as she takes care of her bosses’ new twins by herself, consideration as she tries (and eventually succeeds) to befriend an introverted, elderly donkey, and to not jump to conclusions while figuring out who ruined the Sugarcube Corner’s entry in a prestigious baking contest. She also helps Fluttershy learn to be assertive without being aggressive, Twilight to not excessively worry about the future (as well as help return an escaped Cerberus to Tartarus), and save Twilight’s brother’s wedding to Princess Cadence from an invasion of Changelings.
- After helping save the Crystal Empire from the evil King Sombra, Pinkie has even more adventures with the girls, including cloning herself multiple times using a magical pool, helping the others convince the Inspector for the Equestria Games hold this year’s games in Ponyville, and being magically given Applejack’s cutie mark while Fluttershy receives hers. After Twilight writes a new spell to reverse this and bring her friends back to normal, she is made an alicorn Princess, and is crowned with Pinkie Pie and the rest of her friends by her side.
- Shortly afterwards, Princesses Celestia and Luna go missing again, and black vines spreading from the Everfree Forest begin to engulf Ponyville. Pinkie and her friends discover the Tree of Harmony- the source of the Elements of Harmony- is dying, allowing seeds Discord sowed before his first imprisonment to sprout and wreak havoc. The ponies return the gems in the Elements to the Tree forever, but the Tree produces a mysterious box with six keyholes.
- The girls try to research the box using the library in the abandoned Castle of the Two Sisters, inspiring them to keep a journal of their adventures as Princesses Celestia and Luna did long ago. Life otherwise continues normally for Pinkie Pie as she and the others are sucked into a comic book and she’s temporarily given super speed, learns that she might be a distant cousin of the Apple family, and cheers on Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, and Bulk Biceps as they qualify as Ponyville’s relay race team in the Equestria Games.
- Pinkie Pie plans to throw a party for Rainbow Dash’s birthday and the day she first moved to Ponyville. However, Cheese Sandwich (sensing how epic this party will be) comes to town and takes over the “birthiversary” preparations himself. This makes Pinkie briefly doubt her skills as a party planner, but manages to reassure herself of her skills and challenge Cheese to a goof-off. During the goof-off, though, Pinkie Pie realizes Rainbow Dash isn’t having fun, and forfeits so that Cheese Sandwich can throw her a party that will make her happy. As she dejectedly walks off, Rainbow Dash reassures her that she’s the best permanent party pony Ponyville has, and Cheese reveals to her how she’s the one who changed him from a shy, friendless colt into a charismatic and well-known party planner. They throw an amazing party for Rainbow Dash together, and before he leaves he gives her Boneless, his special rubber chicken he first received at the party that inspired him. Pinkie Pie writes this all down in the friendship journal.
- Pinkie continues to learn about friendship as she introduces her friends to her big sister Maud, helps Twilight market her books at the Rainbow Falls Traders Exchange (and makes the Princess realize they have too much sentimental value to part with), and cheering on Ponyville’s relay team as they win silver in the Equestria Games.
- During the Cerberus’s escape some time ago, a villain by the name of Lord Tirek was able to free himself from his imprisonment in Tartarus, bent on stealing all magic from everypony in Equestria. The girls double their efforts to open the mysterious box, and realize through rereading the friendship journal that each of them have inspired somepony with their Element and received a token in return. These tokens (including Boneless) turn out to be the literal keys to opening the box. When Twilight receives the final key, the box gives Pinkie and the others back their Cutie Marks and gives them Rainbow Power, allowing them to defeat Tirek, restore the magic of everypony in Equestria, and gain a new quest: to spread the magic of friendship throughout Equestria.
The very first thing anyone notices about Pinkie Pie is her energy: she is a cheerful, enthusiastic, random, and very talkative young Earth pony. And while it can be easy to instantly peg her as JUST these things, spending a little more time with her reveals there are quite a few more facets to her character.
The first instance Twilight (the main character of the show) recognizes this is when the Mane Six are on their quest to find the Elements of Harmony. During their trek through the Everfree Forest, Nightmare Moon cast an illusion to give the trees menacing faces, frightening most of the ponies from continuing forward. Pinkie, however, gently giggles and tells (and sings to) the girls that they can face the scary things in the world with laughter. And it works! Simply laughing at a tree dispels the illusion, turning it back to normal. Soon the other girls are laughing too, and by the time the forest is back to normal, the girls are literally rolling on the ground laughing in delight.
This is Pinkie’s driving trait: the desire to make other’s happy, even in the face of danger or sorrow. Party planning is a career that brings lots of excitement and fun, as well as praise and attention. And nice as those things are to her, Pinkie doesn’t throw parties for her own pleasure or glory. From the day she first saw a rainbow and felt joy, her mission has been to share the enthusiasm she has for everything to as many ponies, dragons, donkeys, buffalo, griffons, and what have you as she can. This caring extends outside of parties as well: she refuses to prank Fluttershy because she knows how sensitive the pegasus is, and even in her persistent attempts to befriend Cranky Doodle Donkey she apologizes every time she realizes she’s hurt his feelings. Even after being treated cruelly by Gilda and witnessing the griffon do the same to Fluttershy, Pinkie’s idea of “dealing with her” is by throwing her a party to encourage her to be friendlier instead of revenge.
Don’t be fooled into thinking she’s always sweet and happy, though, or that she’ll let anything slide. Pinkie Pie may be upbeat and hard to rile up, but she’s brave, stubborn, clever, creative, and a devoted friend. She gives no pause waltzing into a dragon’s lair to persuade it to move elsewhere, or assaulting one with cakes when it attacks Sugarcube Corner. She’s able to beat Rarity at tic-tac-toe thirty-seven times in a row, and invent many songs and contraptions on the fly, including a flying machine, a one-pony band suit, and a party cannon: a device which can perfectly outfit a room for a party for a room or blow away Changelings with just a touch of the fuse. She’ll chase anypony- even Rainbow Dash- all over town if she’s determined to have their attention, and the second Discord switches from goofing around and making it rain chocolate milk to brainwashing her and her friends and ruining their harmony, she’s determined to stop him. Pinkie Pie’s definitely a force to have on your side, and formidable if you go too far with her.
But she’s far from invincible. Pinkie Pie puts a lot of stock in the bonds she has, and the thought of them disappearing is hell to her. Being rejected can leave her anywhere from slightly disappointed to outright depressed and even crazy: thinking that the others didn’t like her or her parties anymore deflated her mane and tail, and she briefly hallucinated that the inanimate objects sitting at the table of her new party were actually speaking with her and convincing her that her friends weren’t good for her anyway. She also sometimes have difficulty seeing things from other’s perspectives and communicating her own. Instead of explaining that the parasprites are a pest instead of cute creatures and explaining that they can only be lured away by insects, she instead immediately rushes off to build a one-pony band suit, only meeting up with the girls every once in a while to exasperatedly ask for random musical instruments, leading to the others to dismiss her efforts as her just being random.
In short, while every bit as bright and joyful as she seems, Pinkie Pie is definitely not somepony to brush aside, as a friend or as a foe.
Gem Considerations: Pinkie Pie’s gem will be a bright blue
Indicolite, cut into the shape of a balloon and placed over her heart. Not only will it physically resemble the appearance and placement of the stone in her Elemental necklace, the meanings of the stone fit well with Laughter: inspiring joy and happiness, creativity, and courage.
Physically, it’ll make any clothing the stone generates some shade of blue or blue-green, and possibly add bright blue streaks to her hair over time. From a character standpoint, it might strengthen her urge to spread laughter throughout the community even more, especially in light of the arc started by Season 4.
Power Considerations: List Three Powers You Would Like Your Character To Have:
- Hammerspace
- Shapeshifting
- Precognition
The first two are mostly for fun: Pinkie Pie frequently uses hammerspace in canon for gags and occasionally for combat, and she’d find it very interesting to try out different forms. The last one can be used a little more seriously. Like hammerspace, in the show Pinkie Pie has a low-level form of precognition she calls her “Pinkie Sense,” which allows her to use sudden physical signs to predict “vague, immediate events” (i.e. a twitchy tail means something’s about to fall), and she has used it in emergencies to save people from being struck by falling objects. Not only would this be useful in battle, but it also fits indicolite’s connections to the third eye and increasing psychic awareness.
As for the powercap, Pinkie will be a bit disappointed at not having Pinkie Sense or not being able to pull her party cannon out when she needs it (and might even freak out when she first realizes the latter). But she’s fairly quick to bounce back on things like this, and it’s a new world, so she won’t be too upset for long, and she’ll be thrilled when she does get them back.
Sample: Super hyper pony, meet super hyper turtle.
